I heard about Earl Blumenauer through a friend who studied Political science at University Of Nigeria, Nsukka. Sometime in 2007. We usually meet at his house at Parkview Estate Ago Palace way, Okota, Lagos where he usually lectured me on legislative duties comparing USA democracy and our country.

Oftentimes, he mentioned Blumenauer and confessed his love for the great congressman. However, my quest to know more about Blumenauer comes forth this write-up.

Interestingly, Earl Blumenauer was born on August 16, 1948 in Portland. He is a member of Democratic party and represented Oregon's 3rd Congressional district which include most of Portland, east of the Willamette River. Between 1987-1996 he served the Portland city council and has spent over 20 years as a public official.

He graduated from Centennial High School in 1966. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Lewis and Clark in 1970. He majored in political science. And in 1976 he completed his education and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the school Northwestern School of Law.

Blumenauer political life started since 1969 when he led "Go 19" campaign, an effort to lower the state voting age. And he has remained active in US politics. However, he was elected to US House of Representatives in 1996 in a special election to fill the vacancy caused by the election of then US Representative Ron Wyden to the US Senate he polled 69% of the votes, defeating Republican Mark Brunelle.

He was noted for his advocacy and strong supporter of legislation and education. As a lawmaker he sponsored many bills notably the Bunning-Bereuter- Blumenauer flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004.

"He was described as the man who probably knows the most about how Portland works "

Just like Blumenauer, Hon Chris Azubogu representing Nnewi North/Nnewi South/ Ekwusigo Federal Constituency can also be described as legislator who knows the most about how his constituency works. He has since his seven years in the Lower Chamber delivered uncommon representation to his constituency.

Just like Blumenauer, Hon Chris Azubogu is accessible and always fight for the interest of his constituency in the lower chamber. His latest motion on the floor read thus; The urgent need to investigate immediate and remote causes of the burning liginite at Otolo Nnewi in Anambra State. His motion was on the 8th June, 2018 after his attention was drawn in a fire burning at Oduga stream at Umu-uzu Otolo Nnewi giving out irritating gases suspected to be sulphur on 27th March, 2018.

Just like Blumenauer, Hon. Chris Azubogu has embarked on empowerment program(s) targeting the youths. He recently sponsored many youths in ICT training and rewarded the best students numbering over 30 persons with ICT gadget(s). Our lawmaker understands that legislative duties involve not only sponsoring bills and motions on the floor rather empowerment program to eradicate poverty and illiteracy among the constituents.

Just like Blumenauer, Hon Chris Azubogu has demonstrated his commitment towards the local economy of his constituency through his representation by attracting the Nnewi Automobile project which will strengthen local economy and encourage local manufacturers while spiralling development within the constituency. He recently commissioned cold room at Orie Akpu market on Saturday, June 16 2018 with a giant generating set to power the cold room 24/7. One can imagine the joy on the face of old market women to have witnessed the commissioning of the project. Need we say that  the era and risks associated to transporting unsold fishes from Ozubulu to Nnewi cold room on daily basis is over.

If performance determines reelection then come 2019 no vacancy in Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal constituency seat because Hon. Azubogu has performed and must be returned.

No wonder his campaign slogan goes with "The difference is clear" indeed the difference thus far is clearly clear.
